GENESIS

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The Bible was written to a specific audience, at a specific time, within a specific culture. As well-versed in the Bible as some of us may be, it always requires a bit of work and effort to approach and understand the text in the way it was meant to be read. We believe that the Bible is written for all people, for all time - and we all need to do the work in recognizing the meaning of the Bible in its original context.

The Bible was written by some brilliant authors, with the help of the Holy Spirit, and they did so with intentionality and purpose on every page. The Bible is written in a way that builds upon itself, and so we can read what’s on the surface, but when we look beneath that, we can see the richness and depth, referencing what God did and who He is. One of the tools they used to help readers recognize who God is and what He does was by introducing repeating motifs and themes, many of which begin in Genesis.

In this series, we’ll focus on patterns that emerge in Genesis and are echoed throughout the rest of the Bible. We’ll see how God consistently shows His character and works to redeem, restore, and rescue His people. As we do, our prayer is not merely for more knowledge, but a deeper relationship with our God and Creator.
